Jenna Bush Hager and Hoda Kotb are serving tennis tea.
According to the Today cohosts, who attended the U.S. Open with fellow anchor Savannah Guthrie, they got schooled at a recent match by one of the biggest tennis fans in the world—Anna Wintour.
In fact, when the trio attended the Sept. 8 Men’s Singles Final at the U.S. Open—where they cheered on U.S. athlete Taylor Fritz as he took on Italian player Jannik Sinner—their enthusiasm for the game got them into some trouble.
“Tennis is fun,” Hoda said on Today With Hoda and Jenna on Sept. 9. “We were loud and annoying.”
Though she said she was encouraged to be even louder by some spectators, Jenna admitted, “I think Anna Wintour asked us to quiet down.”
E! News has reached out to Wintour’s rep for comment and has not heard back.
The Vogue editor in chief and Conde Nast creative director, who is a major tennis aficionado, was, in fact, in the stands, sitting several rows below the rowdy bunch.
Dressed in a white and black polka-dotted dress and sitting next to actor Eddie Redmayne, the 74-year-old was photographed looking very engaged in the match, which ultimately ended in a loss for Fritz as Sinner bested him in three sets.
Jenna noted that she was keen on making sure that Fritz understood he had the crowd’s support after many in the stadium began chanting, “Taylor, Taylor,” as Taylor Swift and her boyfriend Travis Kelce made a splash in the stands.
“We didn’t want him to think everybody was there to see Taylor Swift because we weren’t,” Jenna noted, sharing that she tried to start the chant “Fritzy, Fritzy," but it didn’t take off. “We didn’t even know she was going to be there.”
Of course, the “So High School” singer and her Kansas City Chiefs tight end beau drew attention as they cheered on the players, smooched, sang, and danced together.
“Anyway, congratulations to them,” Hoda quipped of the couple. “Having fun. They’re living their best lives!”
